Custom Reports In Google Analytics

Reporting is an important aspect of digital analytics. Different solutions have different ways to generate custom reports. In Google Analytics portal generating a custom report is not more than a cup of coffee.

Steps to create custom report

custom reportsFirst of all after opening , it opens the home page with name of your website/app. And at the top it comes up with menus like Home, Reporting, Customisation, Admin. Then click on Customisation menu and you are ready to create custom reports.

Once the Customisation page opens, you can see all the created custom reports or empty list if not. Just above the the list there are three buttons placed out of those you need to click on the “+ New Custom Report” and a form opens to fill.

As you can see the above image, the form title should be the report name and then default it has single tab but if you need more you can create by clicking “+ add report tab”. Inside every tab you have the option to give a specific tab name followed by type where just select “Flat Table”. Flat Table is good to use if you want to see the report in tabular structure. Now Dimensions and Metrics are there,  for example to see the report of countries in which your website/app is getting used, click on the “+ add dimension” and type country and select it and then again do the same steps for Country ISO Code. Once dimensions are set, click on “+ add metric” and type Users and select and your metric is also ready. Now you are all set to see your custom report, just click on the “Save” button and Your new custom report will load with data in tabular structure. If you want to apply any filter try the “Filters” section.

Here is an example of the data and structure of a custom report and you want to make any changes after generation of the custom report, there is always an option to edit, click on the “Edit” button appears on top of Segments.


Note :

  • In Custom reports as of now it only allows maximum of 5 dimensions and 5 metrics.
  • Report always show 10 rows by default to see more rows choose the values at the bottom right of the report.
